SUSHMITA SEN Talks about I AM SHE MISS INDIA UNIVERSE 2010

Fifteen years ago, Sushmita Sen charmed an entire nation with her intelligence and poise after she brought home India’s first Miss Universe crown.

The statuesque model-turned-actress is now all set to help groom young girls for the international pageant as host of its India preliminaries - 'I am She'.

Sen, who has earned a reputation for herself in the Indian media for being unconventional, spoke to Reuters about 'I am She', her adopted daughters 'Renee' and 'Alisah' and why she would like to adopt many more times.

Q: Why do you think India is not doing well at international pageants? What do you think is lacking in our beauty contest aspirants?

A: The reason you have had so many winners from South American countries, like Venezuela, Chile or even Brazil, is that they take this contest with the same seriousness that we take the Olympics.

It’s a competition for them, on a global platform. The whole country backs it. Even 'Miss Universe' must feel the pressure, because at a venue in the Bahamas, you can only hear Spanish because the whole of Venezuela has flown down for the event.

A lot of the nations that come for the event, big or small, who don’t take this so seriously, suffer because their girls never get a natural push that the other countries get, just for sheer involvement in the event.

But we are going to change that, because we know inherently that nobody can make as much noise as we can. We are the loudest. This should be the kind of victory that your country calls to congratulate you for.
Q: Your pageant is also associated with social causes. How important is celebrity status in the glamour industry?

A: When I was a kid in school if you showed me a social message on TV, it would bore me. But if it was integrated into a Santa Barbara, or a beauty pageant, I would be hooked. So for me glamour, sports are very important to be able to express the support for all the causes that one feels strongly for. And there are so many of them. So we have tied up with five NGO’s for five causes that we strongly believe in for the 2010 edition of the 'I am She' pageant.

Q: One of the NGO’s that you have chosen is 'Baalasha'. Tell us the reason behind the decision.

A: That is an obvious one. 'Baalasha' made my first experience of becoming a mother so painless, and at a time when I was only 24. At that time India didn’t allow single parents, especially actresses who were single, to adopt. Baalasha could have made my life really difficult, but instead they went out of their way and made it really easy for me. There are so many kids out there who just need to go home; they seriously need to go home.

I feel that I will adopt many more times, because I feel that whatever is my capacity, I must do.

Q: You have just adopted another baby girl, Alisah. Tell us about her.

A: She is adorable! She is so beautiful and Renee is almost like a mother to her. I was just waiting for the courts to make it legal for you to be able to adopt two girls, and the minute that happened, I jumped at the chance. She is three months old and I just want to ask everyone to pray for her.”

Q: What does it take to be a good businesswoman?

A: To be a good businesswoman, most importantly is that you have to be aware. You can do no good unless you are aware. Awareness is of many levels. Once you choose a process, you have to trust it; you have to trust the team you have chosen, because they are your biggest strength. I would say invest in your people. Oh, and always watch your costs!

The Dreaded Top 10 Question and Answer Round of Femina Miss India : Kill it now

FEMINA MISS INDIA GOES ALL OUT FOR THE BRAINS, THEY HAVE 2 ROUNDS FOR BRAINS. First the TOP 10 Q/A and then the cut is made to 5 and then they have the FINAL QUESTION, ! WHY ? I MEAN WHY ? THIS DREADED TOP 10 Q/A ROUND HAS KILLED MANY OF OUR BEAUTIES AND SEALED THEIR FATES. JUST IMAGINE IF THEY WOULD HAVE WON MISS INDIA HAD THIS ROUND BEEN NOT THERE THEN ??

PRESENTING YOU ARE THE 9 LADIES WHO WERE THE VICTIMS OF THIS DREADED HORRIBLE TOP 10 Q/A ROUND !

2001\
DEEPTI GUJRAL

Image

Celina was fine but more suited for Earth / World. This is the BIGGEST Blunder in the history of MISS INDIA PAGEANT. Deepti Gujral was a victim of the over zealous Q/A rounds at FEMINA , She failed to move to top 5. How did Maheshwary , Kanwal toor or even Namita edge her out ? She would have given DENISSE A run for her money ! What did we gain by sending Celina , She faltered at the Q/A round . Even in the worst case scenario Deepti would have been at 5th spot also !

WHEN A CLAPPER MAKES IT BIGGER THAN THE WINNER

Miss India is known for crowning the not so pretty ones but really very smart women of substance !

There has been so many incidences in Femina Miss India Organization wherein there are no clues of the Winners but the Semi Finalists or even the Non Finalists have made it bigger than the winners !

1995

Esha Kopikkar a Non Finalist of Miss India 1995 Pageant today is a well known Actress.

The Winners that year were : Manpreet Brar ( Ist RU : Miss Universe ) ,Preeti Mankotia ( Unplaced @ MW ) , Ruchi ( Ist Runner up Miss Asia Pacific !)

Today no one knows or cares about Manpreet and co , But Esha has made it big! She is an A level Bollywood star and was recently invited to be a judge at Miss Universe pageant .

2005

Image

Perhaps the Weakest trio ! Amrita (Unplaced at Miss Universe) , Sindhura ( Top 16 at MW ) , Niharika ( Unplaced) had a very short limelight period ! They just could not take mileage of the Miss India fame .
Rather Sonal Chauhan , A top 10 finalist , took full advantage of whatever little coverage she got and became a Bollywood Star. She also won Miss Tourism International 2005.
There are no whereabouts of the Winners, Sindhura is a struggling actress and trying to associate herself with Femina!

WAKE UP FEMINA , DROUGHT COMING SOON

Have you ever wondered that what would the Delhi/Mumbai regionals be like in 2010 ? Ok here is the scenario , Sushmita would have booked her 20 girls ( The best from country) till the 27th February .

And the tentative dates for Delhi regionals is 25th February and Mumbai is 1st March !

Now then . Ofcourse these 20 Iam She Finalists wont be able to take part in Delhi regionals . But can they take part in Mumbai regionals ? I mean they have undergone such extensive training from Sushmita all for FEMINA LOL ?

Its a real funny situation if you analyze . Forget the 4 runner ups of I AM SHE , They are ruined ! lol , Because they will have contract with NGOS. So they wont be able to take part in FEMINA,

But what about the other 15 finalists , On whom Sushmita spent money , all for taking part in FEMINA ? Will Femina allow them ! Well if it doesnt then from where will they get their stunner !

Same goes for Miss India East !! The regionals are on 28th January ! lol the East Indian Girls from Iam she Finalists book your tickets now from Udaipur to Kolkata because certainly you wont be able to take part in walk in auditions !!

Its a total mess for our hapless candidates this year !! Water water every where not a drop to drink !!

And yeah Ahmedabad , Pune , Chandigarh , Nagpur , Indore , Lucknow will all get Tantra Rejects ! Sushmita wants 60 AND SHE WANTS THEM ALL !! LOL !!

WAKE UP FEMINA !!

NEXT TIME BE A LIL EARLY !!

MISS INDIA SOUTH 2010 REVIEW AND COVERAGE

The City of Nizams raised its curtains on the eagerly awaited grand finale of the prestigious beauty pageant Pantaloons Femina Miss India South (PFMIS) 2010 amidst much fanfare. The announcement of the winners came amidst a glittering star-studded ceremony at the Hyderabad International Convention Centre.
Of the 11 stunning beauties who made it to the finale, Nicole Faria from Bangalore was crowned the winner of the PFMI South 2010 and Krithika Babu from Bangalore and Pooja Hegde from Mangalore were crowned the first and second runners-up respectively. The winner gets a direct entry in the top 10 of PFMI 2010. To the question if she would choose between career or family Nicole’s winning answer was that her goal “is to reach out to more people”, so her career is “top priority at the moment”, but she also said that her priority would shift to her “family later in life”.
Keeping with the tradition, the winners were crowned by Zara Shah, PFMIS '09
s e c o n d runner-up, Ragini Dwivedi, PFMIS ‘09 first runnerup and Faith Pa n d e y, Pantaloons Fe m i n a Miss India South ‘09. All three beauties were dressed in stunning gowns by Shravan Kumar.
The esteemed panel of judges who evaluated the 11 lovely finalists comprised former Miss World Diana Hayden, actors Jagapathi Babu, Hansika Motwani and Ileana, cricketer Mithali Raj, designer Rehane Yavar Dhala and Head of NIFT , Hyderabad, Malini D.

Rehane presented the second round with her utterly feminine collection Grushenker, Spring /Summer 2010 . Shravan Kumar presented an extraordinary collection for the third round, called the Ingebore Exotica which had a series of traditional Indian sarees, with a flavour of exotic wildness.
This grand event witnessed some of the most breathtaking performances by southern stars
Vedhika, Meeranandan, Poonam Kaur, Poonam Bajwa, Kamna Jethmalani, Nikita and Bindu Madhavi which had the audience asking for more.
The contestant choreography for the show was done by Marc Robinson (Fashion Director & Contestant Director). The magnificent performances were choreographed by Dileef Johnson and the show was hosted by Parvathy Omannakuttan and Siddharth Kanan. The event was put together and managed by 360 Degrees Experience.
Speaking on the occasion, Marc said, “Over the years Indian fashion and beauty has evolved dramatically and most of our ex-Femina Miss Indias are sought after globally. Femina Miss India is a lethal cocktail of beauty and brains. We are extremely delighted with the tremendous enthusiasm we received for the completion of the third PFMIS. Amidst the close competition the three girls who were successful in impressing the judges with their beauty and brains were declared the ultimate winners. I’d like to congratulate each of the winners for whom the journey has just commenced and wish them the very best in life!”
Zahid Shaikh Head Marketing, Pantaloons said, “PFMIS is a unique pageant that scouts for beauty and talent in South and Pantaloons with its significant presence across South India is proud to be associated for the last three years with the pageant.”
Apart from the names of pageant winners, the names of sub-title winners were also announced.
In the week that went by, the PFMIS 2010 finalists were thoroughly trained at the HICC Hyderabad. The daunting task of preparing these 11 young women to achieve their aspirations was accomplished by a list of e x p e r t s e a ch re n ow n e d in their field — Marc Ro b i n s o n

LANGUAGE WON'T BE A BARRIER FOR MISS INDIA I AM SHE MISS INDIA

Actor looking at educated, intelligent girls to take part, says language won’t be a barrier

Fifteen years after being crowned the first Miss Universe from India, Bollywood actress Sushmita Sen has got franchise of the beauty pageant in the country. Sen recently unveiled her new brand, I AM, as well as its beauty pageant division, I AM She, which will hold the Miss India Universe pageant. And the winner of the pageant will represent India at the international Miss Universe contest.

So far, the winner and two runners-up of the Femina Miss India have been representing India at the Miss Universe, Miss World and Miss Asia-Pacific events respectively. Now, its two winners will compete for the Miss World and Asia-Pacific crowns, while the winner of I AM She Miss India Universe will represent the country at the Miss Universe contest globally.

“Two months ago, Paula Shugart, president of the Miss Universe Organization, called and asked if I would like to own the rights to the Miss Universe franchise in India. I instantly agreed,” an elated Sen told a press conference. Sen, who was crowned Miss Universe in 1994, said that she wants to use this platform to change the attitude of people towards beauty queens. “I want my Miss India to be educated and intelligent. Language is no barrier and we will welcome contestants who speak any language,” she said.
Her franchise would also be collaborating with five NGOs each year, which would be represented by the five winners of the pageant. Each of the five winners will be given a target for a particular cause that they would need to complete by the end of the year.

The NGOs will change every year and those selected this year are: The Energy and Resource Institute (TERI), Ani Foundation, Cancer Patients Aid Association, The Research Society and the Bal Asha Trust. “I don’t want the winning of the crown to be the end of a journey, but the beginning of one that will bring about a big change to the society,” said Sen.

Another departure from the usual glamorous veneer usually applied to such events are the prizes: The winners of the pageant will, from this year on, receive scholarships to study at prestigious institutions around the world, such as the New York Film Institute (NYFI) and Marangoni Fashion Institute, Milan.

Entries for the contest will be accepted for a month beginning Saturday and the finale of the Miss India Universe will be held on February 27, 2010 in Udaipur.

No More Femina , Sushmita Sen I AM SHE Takes over Miss India Universe

sushmitha sen's Tantra entertainment got the franchisee of Miss Univese organisation to conduct pageant in India for selecting their candidate for miss universe 2010.

Mumbai: In a bid to groom 'desi' beauties for the beauty pagent and bring back the Miss Universe crown back to India, country's Miss Universe Sushmita Sen launched 'I Am She' platform here today.

The platform is part of Sushmita's Tantra Entertainment, which was awarded the India franchisee by the Miss Universe Organisation which conducts the pageant across 95 countries across the world every year through its global franchisees.

The platform, with a starting capital of Rs 20 crore, will initiate its campaign to call for aspirants from December 22.

Sushmita will be the brand model for the platform before a new face is selected. The selected girls from the premliminary rounds to be decided on February 27 at Jag Mandir, Udaipur and will undergo an intensive a three-and-a-half week grooming camp under Sushmita.

The girls' training will be shown as a reality show by two television channels. The contestant who will ultimately represent the country will be chosen among the top five finalists through public voting before April 15.

''The platform is about the 21st century girl who is wicked, confident and capable of transcending barriers. She has to be a people's person. I am confident that we shall be brining the 'Miss Universe' crown back in 2010,'' Sushmita said here today at the launch programme.

On the ethos of the platform, Sushmita said that it was being comfortable with one's self. ''Though not a perfect human being, I like myself as I am. We are already who we are. Even if we try to live the life of others, we cannot escape ourselves. We need to be strong and confident, especially when things are not going our way,'' she added.

However, the Bengali beauty has no plans to bid adieu to Bollywood. ''I do not plan to be an actor all my life, but I will leave the industry on my on terms and on a high note,'' stated the defiant diva.

SHRIYA KISHORE BUBBLED BUT FIZZLED :: MISS INDIA EARTH 2009 PERFORMANCE REVIEW

SHREYA BUBBLED BUT FIZZLED!!!

Image

She won Miss India Earth at the tip of an Answer...
With a 1% similarity to Sushmita & a Filmy Aura!
From then on she worked hard which later showed.
As she took part in the Earth's campaign of Beauty...
She gave some scary looks, but her hair was her saving grace!
With a descent body she stood a chance.
With a beautiful gown she clinched her spot!
I wish she had her skin, as when she was at Miss India...
And it would be great, had she maintained the descent body throughout Miss Earth.

In any case her hard work showed!
(Although it showed to be "trying too hard" at times!)
The gown suited to be that of Miss Water 2009!
And Sherya Bubbled to touch that Indian Expectation.
But at the Finale she fizzled against her tough competition.
I thought she would be one of our worst Miss Indias
But I patriotically admit, I'm satisfied with her performance!
Pat on the back...for Shreya Kishore!

BEST SWIMSUIT PRESENTATIONS FOR MISS INDIA FROM 2000 ONWARDS

When India Sent a Bodylicious Babe (2000 And on )

India is notorious for sending not so great Bodies. A lot has been discussed and cursed regarding Femina Miss India's Outdated selection format which favours brains much over Body. Miss India Beauty Pageant does not even have a Live Swimwear round.

That's the reason the swimsuit round is technically India's Weak Point ! But still amidst all the wrongs we do get nicely sculpted queens who make the swimwear round a cakewalk !

2000

Lara Dutta

Image

It came as a shock to me , When Lara topped the swimwear round. A very very rare phenomenon for an Indian Queen. Last we saw was Sushmita or even Madhu coming close to topping it ! Lara was phenomenal !

Highly inconsequential Miss India at Miss Universe. She was there for all the wrong reasons. Let aside her horrendous body , the styling was ghastly. Also It would always irk me that it was she who broke India's 11 year old streak at Miss Universe.

A DISASTER THAT CAN BE 2009 , CAN POOJS MISS INDIA WORLD AVERT IT ?

If POOJA Fails to make the cut , Then 2009 will be the most horrific year for INDIA since 1990 (except 1991) since FEMINA took over the pageant .

CAN POOJA AVERT THIS DISASTER IN THE MAKING ?

NO NEED TO BLAME THE GIRLS , IT'S The organization to be blamed for being complacent and still basking in their hay days of 90s. Times have changed but FEMINA has not. Hoping 2010 will bring in a REVOLUTION
